Parents/Guardians,
Your child will bring a letter home today, Thursday, October 20th, outlining a change to our reporting on many elective courses. The letter is posted here as well. Please note the information session planned for next Tuesday, October 25th at 6:30 p.m. We have also provided a link to Survey Monkey where you can ask questions and/or make comments should you not be able to make it to the meeting. We Scare Hunger

The Bert Bowes Students for Change group is organizing a “We Scare Hunger” campaign. Students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items to their TAG class from Tuesday October 18 – Monday October 31. All donated items will support the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society. There will be a prize for the TAG class that brings in the most items.

WEB Leader Training

Grade 9 WEB Leader Training is happening next week! Reminder that all WEB leaders need to be at Bert Bowes gym:

Tuesday, August 30, 2016, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (Pizza lunch provided)
Wednesday, August 31, 2016 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (Subway lunch provided)

Lunch will be provided but WEB leaders should bring their own snacks.

2016/17 Introductory Letter for Parents

Welcome to the 2016/2017 year at Bert Bowes Middle School. We are looking forward to a great year.  As a Middle School, we have an on-campus policy, which means that once students arrive at the school they are expected to stay on-campus throughout the day. This is to ensure the health and safety of your child, as we are not able to provide supervision for those who leave campus.

 

We believe nutrition is strongly related to good overall health and success in learning. Therefore, we are pleased to offer a quality food program for your child. The Ministry of Education requires all schools to follow their healthy eating standards. Please see www.bced.gov.bc.ca/health/ for more information.

 

We anticipate that this program will begin on September 14, 2016. Until this time, please plan on sending a lunch with your child through September as the School Canteen will only be able to make a limited number of sandwiches and wraps. There will also be a variety of healthy snacks for cash purchase. Detailed information regarding the menu will be posted on the school website at bowes.prn.bc.ca

 

If you should need to sign your child out during the school day, please sign them out at the office when you pick them up and sign them back in when you return them to the school.

 

We welcome parent involvement in our school, so let us know if you would like to volunteer. PAC meets at 7:00 the last Wednesday of each month. Your input would be appreciated. Whether you are able to attend these meetings or not, if you would like to receive the meeting minutes, please email Cheryl Ford (cford@prn.bc.ca) and ask to be added to the PAC email list.

School Opening Dates for 2016-17

The school’s office will re-open on Monday, August 29th from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.  The office will be open for the remainder of that week with the same hours.

The first day for Grade 7 students will be on Tuesday, September 6th from 8:45 am until 11:00 am.  Our Grade 9 WEB Leaders, under the direction of Ms. Carlstrom and Mrs. TeBulte, will help our new students transition to the school.  All other students will start on Wednesday, September 7th at 8:45 am.  School dismissal will be at the usual time of 2:54 pm.

 

Thursday, September 8:

  • School Fee collection begins at the office
  • School Pictures
  • Text Book distribution for Grade 8 and 9 students
  • Barbeque for staff and students

Friday, September 9:

Our regular school schedule begins with Day 1.
